Method
What this is, and what it is not yet.
One pass, one judge. Each home page was rendered once at 1440 and 390 px wide and graded once by a model. To measure the noise we judged 64 of the pages a second time a day later. Each Index carries a 95% interval of ±5.2 points, so one site is clearly better than another only when it leads by more than 7.4 points.
Our opinion, not a fact. Whether these grades agree with designers is read on Nov 6. Until then the Index is Rams' judgment of what the screenshots show.
The page, not the banner. Before the shot, Rams hides cookie banners and sign-up, app and region prompts with CSS. Nothing is clicked or accepted, and each row says what was hidden. A prompt Rams misses stays in the shot and gets graded, and the row says that too. A bot check, an error page or a maintenance page is never graded as the site.
Public pages only. The home page a signed-out visitor gets, no login. robots.txt is read first; a page that disallows us, answers with an error, or serves a bot check is skipped and named above.
